Our story
From farm to modern holiday farm
The Kasparbauer in Kaspardörfl has been in the same family for around 600 years – six centuries full of stories, generations and farming life. Our farm is an Erbhof, an ancestral farm: a distinction held only by farms that have been passed down within one family, without interruption, for generations.
Over the years, the traditional farm has grown into a modern holiday farm. We love the mix: an ancient ancestral farm and modern holiday comfort, tradition and contemporary living. We have poured a lot of heart (and even more wood) into our apartments – and yet you can feel at every corner that this is a real, living farm. 100% of our electricity comes from our own photovoltaic system.
We are Moni & Markus – not just your hosts, but right in the middle of things. We share tips, help with questions, chat, laugh and are genuinely happy when you feel at home here. Because for us, hosting does not simply mean renting out an apartment: we want you to arrive, switch off and head home thinking “That was a really wonderful holiday”.

The Kasparbauer is one of the oldest ancestral farms (Erbhöfe) in Austria. For us, the Erbhof coat of arms is both a distinction and a commitment: to run the farm so that it will carry the generations still to come.

c. 1420
The beginnings
The estate originally belongs to the Teising, an old Salzburg burgher family, and afterwards comes under the sovereign's manorial rule. The oldest land register lists Rupert and his son Petrus as owners.
c. 1500
The Mayrhofer family
Leonhard Mayrhofer runs the farm. To this day the family name recalls the four “Mayrhöfe” on the right bank of the Taurach, known locally as “Kasperndörfl”.
1610
Kaspar gives the farm its name
Ruprecht Mayrhofer hands the estate over to his son Kaspar – one of the most important and best-loved farmers the estate has known. The name “Kasparbauer” comes from him. He leads the farm through the years of the Thirty Years' War.
1731
Steadfast in turbulent times
Following Archbishop Leopold Firmian's emigration edict, more than 22,000 people leave the country, among them relatives of the Mayrhofer family. At the Kaspargut, the family remains true to the faith of their fathers.
1770
Georg builds the farm chapel
Georg Mayrhofer, the most famous owner of the estate, brings the farm great prosperity until 1808. He builds the chapel with its Mariahilf altar, has the house rebuilt, a water-powered threshing floor erected on the Taurach and lays out the orchard.
1808
Fifty years of Matthias
In difficult times his son Matthias takes over the inheritance and runs the farm for fifty full years. In 1859 his son of the same name follows him until 1894.
1883 – 1895
Four farms united once more
Schoberlehen (1883) and Hödlehen (1895) become part of the Kaspargut, and in 1894 Johann Mayrhofer takes over. With the Diktengut leased as well, the four Mayrhöfe are united again – as in the very earliest days.

The Kasparbauer is an ancestral farm and still in family hands. The farm steeped in tradition has become a modern holiday farm – with apartments for families, animals, a riding arena and plenty of room to play.
